One of the most notable features for BMW at Tokyo will be the ActiveHybrid 5, which is making its global debut. This hybrid sedan has a six-cylinder petrol engine, an electric drive system, eight-speed automatic gearbox and finally lithium-ion batteries to do whatever it its they do.
The new generation four-cylinder petrol engines to be exhibited at the show will be nestled within the engine bays of the 1 Series and X1 xDrive20i. These engines boast TwinPower Turbo technology, providing both performance and efficiency. Another car at the show featuring a TwinPower Turbo engine will be the 6 Series Coupe, which really is a surprisingly good looking car as well.
Moving to the diesels, we have BMW BluePerformance. The BMW X5 xDrive35d BluePerformance will apparently be the first diesel BMW for Japan. Power is provided by a 3.0L six-cylinder inline diesel, with a diesel particulate filter and oxidation catalytic converter. The exhaust is treated with an AdBlue system to reduce NOx emissions.
It really is a sad day when a company like BMW only seems interested in talking about their green products for a show.It isn’t surprising of course, but I won’t be happy until BMW bring a fully fledged 1 Series CSL to a motorshow.
