Toyota has begun production of the new Camry at their St. Petersburg factory in Russia. The new Camry still seems as boring as ever, which should help it sell in droves.

The city of St. Petersburg was formerly known as Leningrad, formerly known as Petrograd, formerly known as St. Petersburg. I wonder if Prince is the mayor? Anyway, the Toyota manufacturing facility there has been the home of the Camry since 2007, when production of the previous generation Camry began.

Given Russia’s reputation for quality, or a lack thereof, Toyota embarked on a comprehensive training programme for its manufacturing staff in St. Petersburg. The training took place in the second half of 2010, and should ensure high quality Camry’s.

I suppose I should mention some features of the new Camry, which is difficult for such a featureless and soul destroying vehicle. It’s got a more spacious interior than the previous model, and class-leading cabin quietness. It’s said to have a bold and elegant exterior design, although this isn’t strictly true. I’m sure someone thinks it is bold, but they’re wrong. The Camry is offered with a choice of two petrol engines; a four-cylinder 2.5L and a 3.5L V6. The engines are mated to six-speed automatic transmission.
